Meet Martin ...

Hello there! Come and warm yourself by the fire and I'll tell you a little bit about me …

My name is Martin and I'm a fully trained Celebrant and Master of Ceremonies/ Event Host based in Somerset creating bespoke, meaningful ceremonies throughout the UK and overseas.

I'm a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and a soon-to-be published author. A dad to four adorable Cockerpoos and when I asked those who know me well for ‘one word they’d choose to describe me’, they said … Inspirational, bonkers! empathetic, professional, caring, selfless, hilarious … and enigmatic along with many others I probably can’t repeat here! For the last 35+ years, every role I've had has revolved around people. I’m very much a people person, ensuring that everyone has the best experience possible with style, humour and attention to detail. After all, the little things really do matter.

In my working life, I originally trained as a nurse and after working as a plastic surgery nurse I relocated and my speciality shifted to caring for end-of-life and Alzheimer's and Dementia patients before managing a speciality charity focussing on proving support for carers of loved ones going through these illnesses. I've even appeared on Channel 4 demonstrating Reminiscence Therapy and these are causes I regularly support through fundraising on a regular basis. I also managed a day service for adults with learning difficulties empowering work based skills through design making what may be deemed impossible - possible.

For almost all my life, I have had a strong connection with the arts, playing piano, performing in countless stage productions, also having the privilege to create hundreds of bespoke events including charity events, gala dinners, theatre productions, concerts and many more while winning many awards along the way. My top priority has always been making sure that my guests have a memorable time, walking away with a smile on their face and memories made to last a lifetime.

Not one to sit and rest on my laurels, I like being busy and broadening my skillset and have been lucky enough to be a Radio DJ, to be asked to represent the National Operatic & Dramatic Association, who’s patron is Andrew Lloyd Webber, adjudicating stage productions - and from the age of 15, I have written and directed plays and musicals winning an award from the Variety Club of Great Britain at an early age.

Whenever a friend said they were getting married, I’ve always been involved from the onset, either using my years of theatrical experience to design and coordinate the event including invitations, order of services, floral and table arrangements to everything in between - including cake making. This has led to being asked to help in many other celebrations or use my writing skills I could never stop myself from getting involved and sorting things out that needed those special touches. These are life changing events that

Some years ago, in the 1990’s, I became friends with Hollywood legend Doris Day after running a global fan club on her behalf and this caused me to set up a cake company 'Cake Sera, Sera!' which gained many celebrity endorsements and won a couple of awards too - which I was most proud of. I have written a musical about the star and most recently have been commissioned to write books on both Doris Day and Rock Hudson.

I became a Celebrant because I wanted to bring together my experiences, my love of people, the expression of their love and a little bit of my theatrical background all mixed together. I am passionate about creating ceremonies that put YOU in the spotlight. I’m excited to get to know you, whether it's to learn about how a dear loved one who is no longer with us has impacted your life, or coming together to find out all about your funny, romantic, heart-warming or downright bonkers story and create the day your family will be talking about for years to come.

Creating a meaningful ceremony is very similar to writing, directing, stage-managing and presenting a show that's playing for 'one night only'. All of the elements have to flow seamlessly and having a celebrant who is an expert at managing these various elements ensures you have ‘rave reviews'.

If you are looking for a celebrant who is experienced, empathetic, professional, humorous with lots of flair putting you in the spotlight with a passion to deliver a heartfelt bespoke ceremony - then I’m the celebrant for you and I look forward to working with you to create a special ceremony to be proud of.
