Welcome to The Martin Woodsford Celebrant Academy — a professionally delivered, accredited training programme designed to prepare you for a meaningful, confident and successful career in modern celebrancy.
Unlike self-paced courses, this is live, interactive training via Zoom, where you learn in real time, from the comfort of your own home, gaining practice skills, and direct guidance, feedback and mentorship throughout.
For Wedding, Funeral, Naming and everything else in between. We’ve got you covered and no stone is left unturned so you’ll have the knowledge and skills to start your business with confidence and pride. You’ll be assessed on ceremonies during the course with homework on some evenings.
You have the option to enroll for the full package or funeral or wedding’s separately.
You’ll be supported, encouraged and professionally guided every step of the way — from your first session through to working confidently as a celebrant.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do celebrants legally marry couples in the UK?
Independent celebrants currently do not have the authority to legally register marriages in England and Wales. Most couples choose to complete the legal paperwork separately at a register office and have their celebrant ceremony as their personalised celebration.
Reform in this area is being discussed nationally, and the profession continues to evolve. Regardless of legal status, celebrant-led ceremonies are where couples are able to fully personalise their experience.
Do I need previous experience to train as a celebrant?
No prior celebrancy experience is required. This training is designed to give you both the professional knowledge and practical confidence to begin working as a celebrant.
Is this course live or self-paced?
All training is delivered live online via Zoom, allowing for real-time interaction, practice and feedback. This is not a pre-recorded or self-study programme.
What happens after I complete the training?
Graduates receive certification, a graduate badge, and continued access to mentorship and the graduate community group to support the transition into professional celebrant work.
Can I build a business after this training?
Yes. The training includes guidance on branding, marketing and setting up your celebrant business. Additional business packages are available for those who want further support.
